Why Moonbones?

When Mica was a teenager, they had a horse named Good Night Moon. He was an off-track Thoroughbred, and was retired early from his racing career due to his relaxed, easy-going manner. It was his gentleness, patience, and responsiveness that Mica fell in love with; in their own words, the pair "went together like coffee and cream". Sadly, due to the steroids he'd been given in his racing career, he developed kidney failure and, by the time he came to Mica, was severely underweight and boney. Lovingly, they called him "Moonbones". The two spent a love-filled year and a half together before the decision was made to put down the horse to prevent his further suffering.

Because Good Night Moon was such a supportive, loving, and integral part of Mica's life, they offered the name Moonbones for the initiative in providing support and love to members of the queer community and small businesses. In this way, Good Night Moon's spirit is kept alive.
